A Vallhund Puppy
We acquired our first Vallhund 9 years ago. Ruby joined our family when my children were 11,10,7 and 4. We now have 5 living with us, ranging in age from 9 years to 14 weeks. Vallhunds are very good with sensible children but, like all other breeds of dogs, they should be carefully supervised around them. Since having our first Vallhund my children have learnt to be very tidy! Over the years they have learnt the hard way that Vallhund puppies love shoes, especially school shoes, toys that aren’t designed for dogs, newspapers, magazines and books, again school books are a great favourite and anything else they shouldn’t have.
Great with Kids!
As a spitz breed they can be noisy but with consistent training when pups, the barking can be controlled. They are a natural "heeler" and from a young age enjoy following their owners around, both at home and when out walking.
My dogs are always found close by and their favourite spot is under my seat whilst I work at my computer.
Most of my Vallhunds live quite happily with the family cats, although my cats have been used to dogs all their lives and show no reaction when meeting a new puppy.
I have one cat chaser, Stanley, who takes great delight in running down the garden when he sees one, mainly because my husband encouraged him as a youngster!
A walk on the beach
Swedish Vallhunds are a very hardy, versatile and intelligent breed. They are quick to learn and with lots of early socialisation and training soon become a much loved member the family.
