Message from Royal Cheshire show they are holding a 2 day Premier show with classes for all breeds 18th June Non sporting ,which is us and 19th june Sporting .Several stakes classes inc a heat for Kcjw competition .The bonus being the show is amid the large Agricultural show .

  Welks dog show is sadly 1 of the shows that we have lost ccs at such a shame as we have picked our numbers back up with most of the puppies born now old enough to compete and several new exhibitors .

Hi everyone, I don't know why my Crufts report   was halved as no other breeds were shortened so apologies. 

 Only a few open shows have been on since Crufts that our members attended. 

At Woolwich, Bexley +District . 
 

Lucy king + Lucy Barnes Hoochie, Ch Starvon Fame Awaits at Izlou had an amazing day, first she won Bob under judge Martin Frostick, Then David Hutchinson awarded her Group 1, then back under Martin Frostick where she won Best in Show. 

Domna +Richard Dodds Ella, Ch Hurstfield Renen Vixen won Best av Pastoral and Best pastoral Veteran, then BVIS. 
 

At Retford show, Fiona Cameron took Ursa, Ch Bowkol Akasha Fire under judge Shiela Gay where she won Bob.  Kyle Jones took Odin, Valltineya Red Redemption won  Rbob and Bpib . 

North Staffs canine society. Diane Robach took Ursa ,Valltineya Bella Star best not separately classified pup +Pgp 3

               Loki, Ch Starvon all eyes on me at Valtineya life story by Lynn Pallatina 
 

Loki was my 1st vallhund ,a breed I had wanted for a long time, but the timing was never right. But as my dogs were getting older  I needed  something to continue my love for training , After hours of scrolling the internet I found his photo I instantly knew this dog was mine .I emailed his breeder and we spoke for hours and I picked him up a few days later Loki travelled so well and he slotted into the pack with ease .From that day forward we spent all our time together .He loved learning new skills and I quickly had to think about what we were going to do together. As I knew he needed a job to do .We worked our way  through the Kcgc schemes and then we tried his paws at agility ,he loved it ,we soon started independant competitions and he did so well..We moved up the rankings and in 2019 he was fast forwards agility runner up ,2nd place.in the winter series league .Losing only to a fast cocker spaniel.with a very competitive handler .I was so proud .He loved fast flowy courses the most.ones where he could just run Helter skelter was his fav games class ,his nemesis was the weaves he didnt see the point and would run past ,to him it was faster that way .He did everything at 100 miles an hour .Due to this we decided to give flyball a try whilst he did enjoy it but wasnt keen on repetition and after 2 legs would just sit and bark at the ball loader .and refuse to get the ball .I often thought I could hear him saying if you want it you fetch it .We did do 2 comps ,1 under Bfa rules and 1 under Ukfl we got a 2nd in each .Again I was so  proud .After that we went back to agility for a while , he loved running top speed on the a frame and through the tunnels .Sadly my health took a turning point and I had to come away from agility .Loki did attend some comps with a friend and brought home some ribbons .I then found another sport that we could do together ,Hoopers.He quickly flew through the hoops and we managed to get to grade 8  out of the then 14 levels he was a natural he used to get so excited and would bark so much on the start line .Once released he had his game face on and worked so hard .I just wish id taken him to some hoopers comps but there werent many around then .Loki also tried his paws at scent and tracking   but he prefered agility and hoopers .In between all of this he also loved showing .He loved showing off and doing things with me ,we were a team . As many of you know he had a successful show career gaining 17 ccs and 10 rccs including Bob twice at Crufts .and a couple of open show group placings. He far exceeded any of my expectations. I feel so lucky to have had him in my life and I miss him every day. I am so grateful he has given me one very special litter all of whom remind me of him. Loki has taught me so much and helped me to become a better version of myself, through him I have met some amazing people, some are now very dear friends. Loki was everything I wanted of a dog and has made me realise how special our little dogs are. Yes, they can be stubborn, yes, they can bark, and yes, the shed their hair all over the place. But they are so smart ,loyal,clever and upbeat. Life is never dull with a vallhund at your side . 
 

Rest in peace Loki, thank you for coming into my life when I needed you the most Love and Sweet Dreams xx 

 A sad loss taken too soon; I will always have the memory of giving him his 1st Cc  whoich was also the 1st cc I awarded quality dog.

Well thats another Crufts over by a week already.  I hope everyone is recovering, me well im sorta complicated I may not be at Crufts 2025 unless I find anyone who is going up just for Pastoral /Working day.
      Our judge for the day was Sue Hewart Chambers and she had drawn a great entry, sadly she was unable to go. Our replacement judge was  Dr Chris Millard (Karmore ) a breed specialist.

Sophie Zbilutz  with Skye  was placed 3rd in Ykc handling by judge Marina White   and  Izzy King and Hoochi  was 5th in the Ykc  pastoral stakes final .
We welcomed some exhibitors from abroad  , Sam Smith  , Trendam from Austrailia without her dogs lovely to meet you as we have chatted for years so good to meet you ., Agnieszka Galica  with Nuria , Polish  sponsored topdog 2023 ,Nuria Saga Lucky . Simone Uiitendaal  with some of her dogs  , Angelica Ludwig  brought 2 of her boys, and  Mrs Crm Fustec Mas . The Commitee would like to thank all of the volunteers who manned the stand for all 4 days . Sharon had split each day into 3 sections  of volunteers  a good idea as we were quite busy. Sharon and family  had to go and decorate the stand on Wednesday already for the show . Thurs , Kyle Jones + Alistair McGregor , Carl Horton  and Kyle  then Gemma and myself .   Fri .Louise Paterson + Sharon Lee,  Beth Ring +Sophie Linney  for both of the sections .

Wishing everyone Good Luck and enjoy your time at Crufts whether you are showing, handling or manning the Discover Dog stand or just visiting. Remember comfy shoes and plenty of refreshments. If it's your 1st time at Crufts with a vallhund then please send me news of your experiences for your breed notes. I believe the time slots on DD stand are organised as                  1st vals from 8-30 till 11,midday 11 till 1-30 then 1-30  till 4oc. Thereby all teams doing 2 and half hours talking to the public about our wonderful breed and what they are like to live with and care for and how versatile our breed is , please try and curb  barking  Sharon has done a great job as always organising all of the cover for the stand 3 sessions a day all 4 days . Plus, Sharon must go on Wednesday to set up the stand and then take it all down again on the Sunday at the end of the day. Remember if anyone is extra interested in possibly adding a vallhund to their family you must only give info to contact our Secretary Sharon as per Kennel club rules.

  Please don't forget to enter the club open show on 7th April this is paired with the Agm .The champ show will be held on 1st September more about this later in the year,

Another date for your diary on the 19th,20th,21st July Southern Finnish Lapphund club has organised the long awaited SITP Spitz in The Park at a new venue Bretford Village Hall Cv 23 Oj2. Limited camping spaces are available if wanted need to book asap .For those who have not been before  Sitp is for all spitz breeds  a weekend of fun and events Quiz night  and especially the fun and laughter of the Spitz Olympics with teams of 4 held on the Sunday and an amazing raffle .Money is raised for charity once costs for venue etc is taken out so a great event you can go dayly  or just 1 day . 

On Sunday 13th October at Cambridge the Sv club are holding Bad, Breed Appreciation Day along with Mce .Starting at 10 am with Breed Standard and History.  Rosie Peacock - Jackson (Kirkholme ) and Jo Day (Starvon ) there will be light refreshments.  A couple of open show results, at Cheltenham +dist Lynn Pallatina took hers and Kath Tilsley Bella, Valltineya Lasso Ur Dreams under judge Mark Elliot who awarded her 5th Nscpuppy .Also under judge Gary Daniel Bella won Mp Stakes. 

Torquay and district there was only sv open under judge Andrea Maltis .1st and Bob was Kirsty Ellis Trev ,Kimaroffs Sidney and Bp to Debbie Howes Creasy ,Valaller the Photographer. Also, in the veteran stakes judge Marion Sargent Debbie with Rain, Pepperthyme on a Rainbow came 5th. 

At Wellingborouth in Avnsc ,judge Jenny Miller chose N and C Hortons Fenrir, Valltineya the Outlaw 1st avnsc then Puppy group 4.

Feb
First some open show results that has been sent to me, all good pre-Crufts practise especially. 

Kate Biss only took Rhu to Newton Abbot show as only 1 class. The judge was Abby Lusty,. 
 

She awarded Rhu, Valaller Strike a Pose Bob and Bpib .The group judge was Angie Johns she gave Rhu A gp 2 and Pgp 2. 

  Wiveliscombe Open show the judge was Julie Williams and there were sv classes.

Debbie's Rain, Pepperthyme on a Rainbow came 3rd in Veteran class. 

 

  At Cardiff canine open show where the judge was Lucy Mottram. Julie Price took Viktor, Valltineya Starlight Rodeo and he was awarded Bob and Bpib , then was shortlisted in the group. 

  Ilfracombe +Dist Open show the judge was Bethan Williams. Debbie's Creasy, Valaller the Photographer at 11 months won Pg with his sister Kate's Rhu, coming 2nd. In Open, 1st Kate's Skye, Valaller Raimaker ,2nd Debbie's Luka 3rd Cherie Hackneys Ash .Starvon all About me. Much to Debbie's delight the judge awarded Creasy Bob +Bpib .  Creasy went into a large Puppy Stakes and came 1st under judge Matt Garnham. Dinner was on Creasy after winning £30 for stakes, but of course he had his favourite Chicken with his dinner. 

At Wellingborough open show the judge was Jenny Miller. Nand C Horton (sorry I don't know your 1st names) Fenrir, Valltineya the Outlaw won Bpnsc  and Puppy gp 4. 
 

   Another new to our breed Alessia Longi and Federico Francescato , took Flori, Valaller Paparazzi to Swka open show under judge Tracy Irving. This was Alessia s 1st time in the show ring it was Nsc and they did well, they came 3rd out of 6. It was nice to of been in the ring with another  vallhund pup as Julie Price was there with her Malin, Valltineya Galadriel, sorry I don't know what place Malin came, 

 Soon it will be Crufts 2024 where I was very pleased to see we have good entry numbers entered , several more pups have been out in the ring plus some will be from abroad so I'm sure you are making sure you and your dogs are fit and healthy , it's always such  long days 8-30 until 4pm  , and those that are just going on the Saturday for showing maybe for your 1st time please take note Saturdays and Sundays are always the busiest .Make sure you have supplies of drinks and food as its always queues and expensive .Obviously for your dogs too .Don't leave bags and shopping  on the benches unless you have someone keeping an eye on it you  can put in your cage if you can lock it while you are at the ring .Usually we all keep an eye out for each other where possible .Would be nice if following Crufts you can send me a piece for your breed notes about your 1st experience whether in the show ring or on Discover Dogs etc . Plus of course anyone else feel free to send me your summary of your time and experiences. I understand our  sec. Sharon  has filled all of the timed slots on the stand for the 4 days. Be prepared to talk valls , valls and even more about valls living with etc, activities you do together.

Amanda and Samantha Smith were thrilled to receive an Akc Plaque awarded to their youngster Fokus ,Aust,Ch Osuno Feature Fokus (imp). Number 1 working dog Qld Rising Star , bred by Andy Lawrie .Also Number 6 Baby in group x12 .Baby puppy in show x6 , Minor puppy in group x8,Minor puppy in show x1, Puppy in group x5 ,Jun in groupx3 .Amanda and Sam are both thrilled with their 3 youngsters all ending up Titled this past year .Aust ch Trendam Beautyskool Dropout ,and Aust ch Trendam U Need to Calm down .Their motto is Dream -- Believe - Achieve.  Congratulations, Fokus is very like my Rayda at that age. The have also taken on a really young puppy found wandering along a road with her littermate she is clearly a kelpie mix she has settled in really well with the rest of their dogs and thriving well, she is very lucky.

Gemma Perry took our Eddie, Starvon Easy on the I Eddison to Lichfield under judge Jane Paradise and won Bob, Alistair Mcgregor +Evans  Lotara ,Valltineya Believe in me Over Chogoris was Rbob . Debbie Howe and Kate Biss went to Taunton Judge was Sharon Bowen. Bob was Kate, Skye ,Valaller Rainmaker, Rbob was Debbies Luka ,Dangas Lukas Jollyson of Valaller .Debbies  Creasy ,Valaller the Photographer won Bpib and Pgp 2 .

 Hi everyone I cant believe its December already the year has flown by soon be Christmas again, I have a mixture of show news. Please remember the cut off dates to do the breed notes over Christmas and New Year are earlier than normal so please send me your tales from shows and in the snow etc.

   First the Nordic where we had a change of judge instead of Tate Forsey it was Ed Forsey (Muzoku) possibly as they have pups at home only 1 could go. Sadly there were only 3 valls, but still a lovely 3. Ed chose for his Bob Izzy King and Lucy Barnes Hoochie, Ch Starvon Fame Awaits for Izloo. Rbob was Steve, Sam and Sophie Zbiluts  Skye, Ch Ohanaway Shes a Rebel. Bp was, Txell Fernandez and Duncan Hobbs, Noomi, Valaller Copyright. As its the Nordic show all Bobs challenge together and im happy to say Izzy Kings Hoochie won Bis under judge Claire Boggia (Boughton).

   Woolwich,Bexley +Dca  Judge for Vallhunds was Jacky Cutler. Her choice for Bob was Domna+Richard Dodds Pippa, Ch Tanellis Bloomin Primrose. Rbob was Jo Day with Kisses, Beidely Blowin Kisses in the Wind, Bp was Sophie and Alex Linney, Buck, Aescwine Bottom Dollar.  Jo took Kisses in Rbob Stakes under Darren Clarke and she came 3rd. Darren also judged the Open stakes and the winner was Domna+Richards Ella, Ch Hurstfield Renen Vixen at Tanellis.

   Meanwhile up North at Land O Burns Canine club Kerry Diamond took her 2 valls in Avnsc under judge Paul Conway. Vanya, Forvana Go on Call me Sassy came 2nd nsc puppy, Nova, Ch Eriksfjord Aurora Charm won Bnsc. in Veteran she won Gp 1 and she also won 1st in Champion stakes. A good day for you. Well done everyone. Next week is Lka and I want to wish you all a safe journey and a lovely Christmas show.

We have been notified a poisonous plant is being used as a decoration in pot plants and can be purchased from Garden centres and possibly in florists. If you are worried your dog /pet may have eaten the plant material contact poison line listed.

The Pot plant is called Livistona Rotundifolia (footstool palm) and also known as Saribus Rotundifolius. It is decorated with Fibrous balls. The are the skeletonised fruit of Cerbera odollan (suicide tree , pang pong) Within each fruit is a kernal that is extreemly toxic. A single kernel could be fatal if eaten a risk to pets and people. The toxic compounds in Cerbera odallam cardiac glycosides which are also found in Foxgloves, Oleander and Lily of the Valley. If you have these fibrous fruits in your pot plant remove them and dispose of them safely.

In case you are not aware Snow globes contain Antifreeze.

   Now we are getting frost and snow watch out for grit and salt on roads and paths, my suggestion is if you have walked your dogs through it then just rinse their paws off once home, to prevent them licking their paws, as if ingested in large quantities it could lead to salt poisoning. I know it would take a lot but better to be careful.

Lyn has asked me to write a few words about working my vallhund Trev.
Trev is actually a Champion, he won Best in Breed at Crufts in 2020. His official is name is Ch Starvon Double Agent at Kirkholme I only state this to prove that you can work show dogs. It gives them and their handlers a very different idea of the dog world. As a team you achieve success purely working correctly. Scentwork is one of the things we do. There are many Scentwork avenues to go down but we do Scentwork Uk and NNA National Nosework Assoociation.
Scentwork Uk is learning to find certain scents; Clove, Gun oil and Truffle oil. The scents will what is termed soaked. So they are prepared on many things ie Cloth, Sponge, etc and then can be hidden in areas for the dog to find.
There are many levels now, I believe 1 - 20. but when we started it was 1 - 8. We are now Level 5. You will have several areas to search and given a time to find the hidden items. There are usually 4 areas to search on each trial vehicles are included in the searches.
We have really enjoyed our journey in this. I am always "blown away" with how Trev works. He loves his job. It is also interesting to see how different breeds operate. A Vallhund is a very independent Spitz breed and wont work like a gundog. 
This is the challenge with you and your dog. Next time I will, mention NNA which is great fun too, Rosie Peacock -Jackson.

Sue Poulton with Martha, 'Meddobe Spice Girl' and Kirsty Ellis with Trev, 'Kimaroffs Sidney' went to Liskeard & District Premier show at the Royal Cornwall Showground. There were sv classes and the judge was Gael Morrison who chose Martha Bob and Trev Rbob. unplaced in group unfortunatly. Kerry Diamond took her girls to the show at Scotland under judge Mr S Atkinson in Nsc. Vanya, 'Forvana go on call me Sassy for Finnica won Puppy bitch', and Nova, 'Ch Eriksfjord Aurora Charm Shcm' came 3rd in open. Meanwhile down in Somerset Debbie Howe took Luca, 'Dangas Lukas Jollyson of Valaller (imp)' handled by Alysha Branchflower, to Torquay & Dist under judge Maria Chalk. Luka won open and Bob, 2nd Kate Biss with Skye, 'Valaller Rainmaker', 3rd Cherie Hackney Ash, 'Starvon All about Me'.   The next day all 3 went to Weston Super Mare Open show. The judge this time was Monica Rigoldi. With 2 classes the pups could join in always good practise. grad class 1st and Bpib was Debbies Beulah, 'Valaller Paparazzi', 2nd was Kates littermate of Beulah Rhu, 'Valaller Strike a Pose'. Open 1st and Bob Luka, 2nd Cheries Ash 3rd Kates Skye. Beulah topped the day off by winning Pastoral Group 3 under the same judge.
     

Rosemary Jackson was  Super proud of Trev, 'Ch Starvon Double Agent at Kirkholme' as some of you know Trev is doing well with all of his Scentwork etc. They had a long day but Trev found all 12 hides and finished the day 3rd and this passed his Scentwork Level 5, congratulations! and she thanked her fellow searches who all made it a great day.

A puppy from Debbie Howes last litter Penny owned by Chris Lewis has passed her puppy course, puppies are so quick to learn things. Ruth Antieul  took Oakley, who was wearing her Slytherin jumper, to the Reading small dogs Halloween walk and they really enjoyed themselves.

Sad to hear but not entirely surprising we have lost cc's in 2024. Obviously East of England as its no more, Blackpool who always have a low number, Richmond who usually has a reasonably good entry, this year it was a good entry even though no Starvon dogs could enter as Jo Day (Starvon) was the judge, and Bath who we had only just got ccs never mind time to build their numbers. Both of the last 2 shows are in the South which is sad as that only leaves Windsor with cc's in the Southern area. Especially worse with shows moving to Stafford especially in the winter not the best trip in bad weather.  In 2024 there are 2 cc's for club shows and the club have decided as in 2021 they ran back to back shows succesfully and everyone enjoyed it they will do the same again shows in 2024 and 2025 will be held at Tomlinsons Canine Centre. In 2026 and 2027 they will hold a stand alone Ch show in April with the Agm and then the Open show and ch show together in September. When you think in a month the last Ch show of the year. Lka  then were back to christmas already.

Abroad news, Simone Uitendaal took Niike, Sharinjah Simasuu at 9 yrs old to Bleiswuk and she won Bob and Bvib under judge Kimmo Mustonen  her son Bucky was Bos under same judge 3rd Bvis. Under judge Erna Upmeijer they were awarded Group 5. Then under judge Dick Rutten she was awarded  Rbis  Excellant a great result. Jen Clark and Sharlene Hudson went to the last Canadian show of the year with Gunner, Bis,Rbis,Bss Gch Vasgota Canadian Giiwedin Lt cgn,etd,ns,sdn  bred by Ulla Gamberg. Gunner was 4x Bob, they have several shows over couple days, Gunner was awarded Gp 1  by judge Stewart Danker. Att Belleville and District kennel club show the judge was Paul Lawless. Ulla Gamberg took her puppy Westorps Crown Royal, on the Saturday he won the puppy group and Sunday won Best baby puppy in Gp 7 so hes off to a good start. 

I have been enjoying having 3 vallhund boys here again  and surprise no rain since they have been here ,bonus .

  Sadly its been awhile since the last breed notes as no -one has sent me any news im sure you all must of done things with your valls.
    The only show news sent to me was from Izzy King she took Hoochie, Ch Starvon Fame Awaits for Izlou they went to Gravesend and Medway under Judge Ed Casey and Hoochie was awarded Bnsc and Pastoral group 1. well done
 Kerry Diamond took her girls to Paisley Open show under Judge Bert Easden. Nova, Ch Eriksfjord Aurora Charm who won Bob and Pastoral Group 3 and  Veteran Gp 2 under judge Jacqui Tune. Kerrys new puppy Vanya, I think just 6 mths, Forvana Go on Call me Sassy  she was handled by Stevie Smith who apparently was dragged around the ring she was hard work as she wanted to be with Nova and by barking  she let everyone know it. Bless always hard when they just want to be with the other 1.  Reminder from Sharon for your photos for the calendar they must be a high resolution particulary pic to do with differant seasons ie Spring, Easter, Holidays, Halloween, Christmas .etc.
   Received some sad news from Pauline Harrild 
I have this morning had to let my Beloved Phoebe breathe her last (25 .10.04 --- 9.11.23 ,19yrs ). It was very peaceful and done by my wonderful, caring and dedicated vet who has looked after her throughout her life. Phoebe, Stillmoor Odins Maiden at Moonsfield was bred by Paula Ackary by Candace Apollo of Stillmoor out of Karjakon Mesimaria (imp). She was shown a fair deal and managed to win 2 ccs and 4 rccs, but was out at the same time as my Ch Upton Enigma at Moonsfield who generally beat her when they challenged each other for the top honours. Phoebe was a very loving and loyal girl but could be a little noisy at times especially when she got excited in the ring and I know she missed out on more than one occasion when in the challenge because of this. Everyone at my vets, her tooth speciallist at Sudbury and her eye specialist at Debenham all fell in love with her and the eye specialist said that because he found the breed so delightful having seen both Phoebe and Maude 16yrs ( Enigma ) he was going to try to get one when he retires in the near future. What a wonderful advert for the breed. This makes me more proud of them than all the winning I have done over the years Thank you Pauline a virtual hug xx.
     I had previously requested some info on how old peoples vallhunds were when they passed over the rainbow as I thought could be interesting especially for anyone interested in maybe getting a vallhund themselves to give an idea on lifespan of sv.
Chris Millard said most of his have been around 15 yrs. Teagan, Ch Hurstfield Mable was 15 1/2, also Fina Hurstfield Osafin and Bora, Hurstfield Time for a Tail. Ch Vastgota True Topaz is currantly 16yrs and still does 3 miles roadwork every day. Mason. Ch Sunfires Heads up at Elrond was 12 yrs and Bruin, Nellies Lennox was 13 yrss.
Vicky Allsops, Zoe, Starvon Have you seen her and Zeta, Toidi Moonlight Magic  and, Zeb, Ch Eldhastens Bobbo Viking was all 15 yrs .
Our Kayc, Shangalis Sweet Dreams and Cjay, Bravon the Emperor were both 15yrs. Metz,  Hurstfield Phollo Metz  14yrs. Rayda, Ch Hurstfield Red Rayda was 17yrs. Java , Norsled Harvey sadly too soon with a brain tumour.
Shiela Haddons Norsled vallhund were mostly around 17 her last 4 littermates were during their 16 th year.
Louise Richards  Guvnor, Ch Palostras Guvner was nearly 17, you will find him behind several of your pedigrees a lovely boy.
Sammie Bull lost her beloved Daz, Starvon Goldfinger at Shamelval shcm  at 16yrs.
so seems to be average is 14 yrs and up.

Wendy Amon went to Shering Premier open show with judge Peter Young , Bumble ,Pepperthyme a Star is Born  was Bob and later won Pastoral Gp 3 under Steve Bennet . Angela Doolins Klara , Pepperthyme Wild Fire was Rbob .Klara then won Best  Rbob in Pastoral Group under judge Simon Luxmore .
At Exeter and County Premier show the judge was Gary Clarke  he chose for his Bob Sue Poultons Martha , Meddobe Spice Girl . Bp was Kate Biss  Rhu , Valaller Strike a Pose , she also won Patoral Puppy Gp 4 .

Next I contacted Sandra and asked her to write a piece about her recent judging at the Speciality show in Finland .
 I was pleased to be asked to judge the Speciality Show in Turku ,Finland  and I had an entry of 85 dogs and my co-judge Janette Van Iperen Hoeven from France judged the bitches and sho had 86 so it was a good entry                                            ( wow it must of been a lovely sight with 171 vallhunds altogether )
 I left home on Wednesday teatime to go to Lengs house to stay the night as she lives nearer to the airport and was coming with me .We left early on Thursday morning for Manchester Airport to get the 10-15 flight to Helsinki . we arrived at Helsinki  at 15 -30 their time .We came through customs and picked up our luggage .As we went outside there was a man frantically shouting hurry up as we had then to get a bus to Turku which is about 2 hours 30 minutes away and it was about to leave .We finally arrived in Turku bus station to be met by Outi who then took us by car to the hotel .We stayed at the Sokos hotel which was very nice and so was Turku . We got changed  and charged to the restaurant as we were so hungry .We had a nice meal then went to bed .We had the Friday to ourselves until 20 - 00 hrs  when we all met up for a briefing on how the show was going to run on the Saturday .
They picked us up at 9-00 am to go to the show .It was a great venue and the weather was good .Everyone had tents and gazebos up it was a great atmosphere .
   I started to judge at 10 oc .There were some lovely dogs in all the classes with very few absentees . I chose my best dog from the Open class, It was Jaxonville Hulivili Hemmo Vaan owned by Oili Helenius .He was all male with all you want from a male vallhund .I had to do a verbal critique on every dog and this is typed up as I said it and the exhibitor is given a copy .It does take quite a while but it is easier with the dog in front of you rather than coming home then having to do it . All exhibitors accepted their grading and placements and so added to making it a good show . I have never seen so many lovely red dogs ,I wish I could of brought 1 home .Janette   chose for her Best bitch Kirsi Hotanens , Bodenies Qvinta Quittapahilla  and she was also Best in show . We didnt take a break and finished after 18-00 hrs.We were taken back to the hotel then changed and out on a boat for a lovely meal .We headed back to Helsinki on the Sunday and came home on Monday .A very exciting trip which myself and Leng really enjoyed .  Results  =

This meant the judge was looming over the dogs not nice for them and not good for judges back  good job it wasnt a bigger entry . I had arrived there in time for the judging which also meant Sam and I were able to meet Sophies adorable puppy  and we kept her  entertained while they were in the ring  she was such a confident little pup and  Sophie wont need to worry about any bait  only need a few strands of grass. lol

     For those interested in sv abroad in Canada owned by Sharlene Hudson and co owner handler Jennifer Clark, Gunner, Bis,rbis,Biss Gch Vastgota Canadian Giiwedin Lt, cgn,etd,ns, sdn bred by Ulla Gamberg  have made history by being the 1st sSv to win a Best in Show. Gunner has been Top Sv in Canada  from 2018 ut till now where so far he is top this year. I had a nice chat with Ulla who had Raydas mum  and she said Gunner is related to Rayda  nice to know.
    Amanda and Sam Smith in Australia  are really proud their young  puppy bred by Andy Lowrie, Fokus is now officially, Aust Ch Osuno Feature Fokus he has been doing really well. In the uk a puppy cannot be a Champion whilst a puppy irrespective of how many ccs they still need to win a Cc 12 months and older.

       Louise Richards has been in touch to say sadly she has lost Inka , Fantasia Lucy Locket (imp) aged 14 1/2 yrs .Louise knew there was something wrong with her so she took her to her vets ,where they scanned her and sadly found she had tumours on both of her kidneys and 1 on her liver. Obviously these were unoperable and so Louise had to say goodbye. Its always a sad time when the time comes to say goodbye but we have to put them 1st and let them drift off to sleep peacefully ,Run free on the rainbow bride Inca x
 The next show was Working and Pastoral breeds held at the beautiful venue at Malvern ,have to say 1 of my 2 favourite venues

 The Pastoral group was called and the judge was Mr Newhouse there were  only 2 missing as both corgis were the same owner/handler  and the polish lowland had been stung and collapsed and rushed to the vet , hope hes ok .
After  examining and moving all of the dogs  Robin narrowed them down to final 10,We  were really proud when Eddie was 1 . After moving them he chose to keep 4 and to the other 6 they recieved a ribbon printed narrowed in group what a lovely gesture. We had a "strange " journey home  the satnav was doing its own thiing lol.

.      As this sounds like we are going to have another hot summer this year its worth doing yourselves a list of extras to take with you for You and your dogs , frozen towels , cool coats , cool mats . poss sm gazebo for shade if no benching , lots  of water good idea to check at the venue when you arrive if they have taps to refill bottles most of the champ shows do . Just as important Plenty of refreshments for yourselves as clearly not good if you dehydrate  either , suncream ,poss hat ,and use the shade for yourselves too . Remember if you walk in the forests ticks are in abundant supply ,check pads too as thats the start of the journey , also be aware of possible snakes basking in the sun on sandy tracks . Open shows next .I had an email from Julie Price  to say she took  Lex , Starvon You got it at Conningsbear Shcm  to Aberystwyth and dist  Lex won Bnsc and Group 3 , and also at the Royal Welsh society premier show this time Bnsc and Group 2   both times in large groups sorry  I dont know who the judges were .. Lynn Pallatina  took her puppy to her 1st show at Staffordshire County show under judge Cathy Howard   Kysha ,Valtineya Plot Twist  and she won Bnsc Puppy .

A mixture of news today .Kirsty Ellis took Trev , Kimaroffs Sidney , to Plymouth and District show where she met up with Sue Poulton with Martha , Meddobe Spice Girl  .  Kirstys  Trev  was awarded Bob  and Sues Martha  ,was Rbob  , Sadly they were the only vallhunds there  but they had further  sucessess  with Trev who also was Group 4, and Martha  who won the Rbob stakes , Judge for Pastoral was Barbara  Attwood .                               Patrik Fazekas ,Freya , Trykeira Eindelose Vreuge .bred by Pat Drinkwater I believe out of a litter of 10 ,entered and took part in her 1st canicross ,  at Glasgow Epic Trail  10k , it was a small class but hey they still won a first and to my knowledge is  the first vallhund doing canicross .Another example of the versatility of the Swedish Vallund to add to the list . Canicross, Obediance, Tracking, Scentwork ,Showing, Junior handling, Support dogs, Agility, Flyball, Hoopers, Search and Rescue ,Herding livestock ,Visiting Nursing Homes  , and great family dogs and long lived too.
      Following the Swedish vallhund walk I have received  a piece about it  from Michelle Olley .
  Freyr the Viking god of rain and sunshine must of been smiling down on us on our Spring  Swedish vallhund society walk . ( vallhunds are the viking cattledogs )  Because the neer-cast-a-clout May weather could of gone either way.The party of 13 humans  and 11 dogs set off off in wooly hats ,fleeces , and padded jackets and ended the walk  in T-shrts and sunglasses .Result .We couldnt have asked for a lovelier location .  Forty Hall Estate boasts 273 acres of land , including a Country Manor .a lake ,a working farm and a variety of wonderful walks ,including the one Domna and Richard Dodd stress tested for us the day before . Our spontaneous pack. Ella ,Cali ,Gemma , Lottie, Moony, Oakley, Pippa, Ralph, Summer, and Honorary vallhunds, Wanda the Xolo and Bree  the Elkhound, trotted round the grounds. Jaunty little vallhund bums everywhere you looked all getting along just fine and enjoying  the sunlit glades, verdant meadows, woodland and streams. It was a lovely opportunity to catch up with some of our svs pals as well and great to meet some new ones. We ended the walk with refreshments and a walk around the monthly farmers market .Many thanks to Sharon we were sorry not to see you this time and hope you are on the mend , and  Rosa and Domna  for making this walk .happen .It was one for the memory banks. Thanks also to everyone who came along and made it such a special day,   Alan, Chris, Erin, James, Mark, Richard, Ryan, Ruth, Tim and Vicki. Dunno about everyone elses dogs but our Moony happily spent the rest of the day super chill and catching zzzzzzs Cheers Freya.

I had a phone call from a lady who  rang me to thank me for the tips i wrote last week about  what to put into a spray bottle for tick and flea spray, she told me she reads all breed notes  and actually she has  also stewarded  swedish vallhunds at shows over the  years and liked the breed. In return she told me of a dog safe weedkiller   to make in a spray bottle. Mix a litre of white vinegar, 3 tablespoons of washing up liquid  3 tablespoons of salt. Then spray onto weeds she has tried it and it works.
     Im sure most of you have heard the news from the kennel club regarding  Rccs ,and new Champion status. At the moment 3 ccs from 3 differant judges makes your dog a champion ,as long as 1cc is for over 12 months old.  If your dog has 2 ccs  from  the 1st July, it changes to if your dog is then is awarded 5 Rccs  thereby holds 2cc and 5 rcc  from 7 differant judges your dog will become a champion. Obviously if your dog gets the 3rd Cc to make your dogs up to a champion.

Our Spyda was shortlisted in the Pastoral group under Howard Ogden , also Izzy took Hoochi  to ,and  passed The Kennel Clubs Good Citizen Bronze test .What a great day for Starvon .We would also like to Thank Sam Moore for handling our boys so well they love her .For those that dont know Sam is my daughter and she used to have vallhunds herself prior to her Finnish Lapphunds she has now .In between  The Bob she rushed back to show her girls then back just in time for group .Thanks Sam .

Tick season has really started again  .A suggested more natural repellant for dogs is as follows .
Use a spray bottle  add  1 cupfull of water , 2 cups of Distilled white vinegar and then if you want you can add 2 spoonfuls of vegetable oil ,Ticks hate the smell and taste of vinegar and will be repelled .If you want it to deter fleas add some lemon juice . I know this worked for all of my dogs including my heavy coated Lapphund . If anyone is planning a trip to the south to visit the New Forest just to give you heads up the Stallions are being released again on the 9th May  till end of July which will be really hectic for a time especially  while they are
rounding up their  mares in the area they released  and then the fight for other mares , last year after theyd been out for a few weeks I saw a stallion not in area released and had 45 mares and several foals with him .A beautiful sight . By them only running stallions then mean the foals are born spring until mid summer means the foals are all well grown by the winter . Remember to give them space just look at a distance .
   Abroad in Canada Jen Clarke had what must a record for Swedish Vallhunds at Cobequid Kennel club N/s . A weekend containing 4 shows , Day 1, Clover ,Vastgota Irish Clover st. won Bob and for her 1st time in a group ring won  1st  Herding Group under judge Douglas Anderson ,  Afternoon show Gunner , Vastgota Canadian Giiwedi, lt , was Bob and also won 1st Herding Group under judge Ann Ingram . Day 2 am Gunner took Bob and won  3rd  Herding Group under judge Wayne Thompson ,   This show Clover was Bos , and Daisy ,Alkemi Daisy Bell lt , was Select  Pm Gunner again won Bob and 1st Herding Group under judge Stewart Danker , Daisy was Bos and Clover was Select .Jen Clarke , Sharlene Hudson and Lynda Morgan were totally thrilled  with their  Maritime Swedish Vallhund team .Congratulations team 3  x Group 1 Herding Groups  plus a Gp 3 has to be a record .1 judge congratulated them saying people are really started to take notice these small but mighty dogs .Jen said none of this would of been possible without the support of our amazing breeder Ulla Gamberg . My Ch Hurstfield Red Rayda was bred from 1 of Ullas bitches ,and chatting to Ulla she said Gunner was related to Rayda from the same line with Raydas gran was in Gunners line twice  that was good to hear . Previous week Gunner competed in his 1st Ckc scent detection trial . He qualified instinct  ,novice containers ,novice interior and novice exterior which gives him his scent detection novice title SDN .Another example of a versatile vallhunds .I remember back a few years  a friend had gone to Germany and said they had vallhunds on the belts etc checking luggage I dont know if they still do as this was about 30 yrs ago .
